Getting Started
Step 1: Finding a Consultant
The most important thing that you will do when starting your sisterlocks hair journey is to find a good consultant. Shopping for a qualified consultant requires a bit of research. I was lucky to have found my consultant from a friend. However, many people find the Sisterlocks website to be very useful. There you will find many qualified and licensed consultants to choose from. During this process you will want to consider the availability and proximity of each consultant that you will get in contact with.
Step 2: Your Consultation
Once you have found a consultant that you feel comfortable with, the next step will be to set an appointment for your consultation. During the consultation, the consultant will install about six strands of locks using different interlocking methods. This is so that the consultant can determine the best method to use for your unique hair pattern on installation day. The consultation fee is about $50 (this may vary depending on the consultant) and the installation may take about 30 minutes. It is at this time that the consultant will evaluate your hair to determine the installation fee. Things to consider during your consultation: How comfortable are you with this consultant? The flexibility and work schedule of the consultant. And most importantly, the affordability of the installation and maintenance fees.
Cost:
The installation fee ranges from $500 to $800 depending on the consultant and oftentimes the length of your hair.
Step 3: Intallation
So, you’ve made it this far and have decided to commit yourself to the sisterlocks hair journey. Congratulations! You have made the right choice. The final step will be to make an appointment with the consultant of your choice. The amount of time that it takes for installation varies. Mine took approximately 30 hours to install; about 10 hours a day for 3 days. Before going to your appointment be sure to dress in something comfortable. Bring food, drinks and something to keep yourself entertained with. It’s a long process, but it will be worth it. I promise. Patience is key!
